Somewhere in the multi-volume tapes of New Directions interviews with Joseph Campbell, he defines myths as stories that tell, in sequential order, the elements of a relationship that is not sequential but simultaneous. That sounds like a way of saying that myths can be understood, in part, as verbal, sequential reditions of visual, simultaneous thinking.
